Cap Badges

Every Regiment, Arm Or Service had their own cap badge worn by all personnel. On berets or general service cap worn above the left eye...on the field service cap, colored field service cap or Glengarry worn on the front left side...on the Tam O' Shanter roughly above the left temple. There were exceptions - some Irish battalions wore the general service cap tilted left, and so the badge on these was above the right eye. The 11th Hussars cap badge was worn only on the colored field service cap...the brown and cherry beret had no cap badge at all. The 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars was worn on the black beret only. 

Non-Illustrated Cap Badges include the Cambridgeshire Regiment, (disbanded February 1942), Cinque Port Battalion (transferred to the Royal Artillery in 1942), Queen's Victoria Rifles (used cap badge of Kings Royal Rifle Corps), Liverpool Scottish (1st Battalion Depot Unit, 2nd Battalion Transferred To The Royal Artillery), Tower Hamlet Rifles (disbanded 1941), Artist Rifles (Depot Unit), Highland Regiment (Depot Unit), Lowland Regiment (Disbanded 1943)

There were also special dispositions for yeomanry units transferred to the Royal Artillery and infantry units transferred to the Royal Armored Corps. These units could choose the badge of their new corps, retain their original badge, or make a new badge combining features of both the original and new corps. 

Infantry units transferred to RAC are listed as follows - 107th RAC (ex 5th Battalion King's Own kept their regimental badge), 116th RAC (ex 9th Battalion Gordon Highlanders chose RAC), 141st RAC (ex 7th Battalion The Buffs chose their regimental badge), 142nd RAC (ex 7th Battalion Suffolk chose their regimental badge), 144th RAC (ex 8th Battalion East Lancashire chose their own regimental badge), 145th (ex 8th Battalion Duke Of Wellington's chose RAC), 146th (ex 9th Battalion Duke Of Wellington's chose RAC), 147th (ex 10th Battalion The Hampshires chose their regimental badge),   148th (ex 9th Battalion Loyal Regiment chose RAC), 149th (ex 7th Battalion Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry chose RAC), 150th RAC (ex 10th Battalion York And Lancaster chose their regimental badge), 152nd (ex 10th Battalion King's Own Royal Regiment chose their regimental badge), and 153rd RAC (ex 8th Battalion Essex chose their own regimental badge).

Yeomanry units transferred to the Royal Artillery and the cap badges they wore were listed as -  Aryshire yeomanry (151st field regiment), Leicestershire yeomanry (153rd field regiment), Duke Of Lancaster's Own yeomanry (77th medium regiment), Lanarkshire yeomanry (156th field regiment), Northumberland Hussars (102nd Anti-Tank regiment), South Nottinghamshire yeomanry (107th and 150th field regiments), Hertfordshire yeomanry (86th field regiment self propelled), Queens Own Worcestershire Hussars (53rd Air landing Light regiment), Queens Own Oxfordshire Hussars (63rd Anti-Tank regiment), Queens Own Royal Glasgow yeomanry (54th Anti -Tank regiment) surrey yeomanry (98th field regiment), Norfolk yeomanry (65th Anti-Tank regiment), Essex yeomanry (79th medium regiment) and Scottish Horse (79th medium regiment with a king's crown above)
